Since Israel launched its devastating war on 7 October 2023 following Hamas's unprecedented attack, Gaza has been practically decimated. In what has been termed as a plausible genocide by the International Court of Justice, Israel has killed upwards of 40,000 Palestinians and maimed over 100,000. It has also restricted the entry of aid to a captive population in what human rights groups have termed a calculated campaign of starvation. At the same time, Israel has gone after Hezbollah in Lebanon and other Iranian-backed groups across the region. And for the first time in history, Israel and Iran have traded direct blows as observers warn of the risk of a wider regional war.
